How to Measure Yourself
Every House of Karmah piece is made to order, cut to your measurements after you place it. There is no rack to try against and no exchange once cutting begins, so the ten minutes you spend measuring now is the fitting.
Take five minutes. Read this once before you pick up the tape.
What to have ready
- A soft measuring tape: cloth or vinyl, not a metal one. A rigid tape can't follow your body's curve and will read short.
- A well-fitted top and bottom, or well-fitted innerwear. Measuring over loose clothing adds inches you don't have.
- A mirror, or a second pair of hands. Both arms behind you to hold the tape is harder than it looks, so ask someone to help if you can.
- A pen and paper. Write each number down as you take it.
How to measure
Bust. Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, tape parallel to the floor all the way round. Snug against the body, not pulled tight; you should be able to slide one finger under the tape.
Waist. Find your natural waist, the narrowest point of your torso, usually an inch or two above the navel. Wrap the tape straight around it. Breathe normally; don't pull your stomach in.
Hip. Stand with your feet together. Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat; for most people this falls seven to nine inches below the natural waist, not at the waistline itself.
Shoulder. Measure straight across the back, from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other. This one is easiest with help; ask someone to place the tape while you stand naturally, arms relaxed.
Sleeve. Bend your elbow slightly. Measure from the shoulder point, down the outside of the arm past the elbow, to where you want the sleeve to end.
Length. Measure from the point where the garment will start (shoulder for a kurta or gown, waist for a lehenga) straight down to where you want the hem to fall. If you're not sure, measure a piece you already own and love the length of, and send us that number instead.
Measure twice
Take each measurement a second time before you write it down as final. If the two readings don't match, take a third and use the middle number. A measurement taken first thing in the morning can read slightly differently from one taken in the evening; that's normal, not a mistake.

Choose Custom at checkout and add your numbers in the notes, or send them to us directly on WhatsApp; we'll confirm every measurement back to you in writing before your piece goes into production. If anything reads unusual for your size, we'll ask before we cut, not after.

What happens after you order
Made-to-measure pieces are stitched to your numbers in 10 to 14 business days. Bridal pieces and full bridal commissions take 4 to 6 weeks, or the timeline stated on that product's page. Add transit time on top: international parcels typically run 5 to 9 business days after customs clearance for most Western destinations.
If you're ordering for a wedding or event, place your order at least eight weeks before the date. That gives your measurements time to become a finished piece, and gives us room to reach you if anything needs confirming along the way.
